The MLS Cup is just around the corner, and it will be the biggest prize of the year.
The competition between the New York Red Bulls and the Los Angeles Galaxy has the potential to be one of the biggest games in the league, but there are also a few teams that could be in the mix for the trophy.
Here’s what to look out for on Sunday:1.
LA Galaxy: The Galaxy are on a roll right now.
The team has been a top-10 team in the Western Conference and has a perfect record in their last five games, defeating Real Salt Lake 2-1 in front of their home fans on Wednesday night.
They were a tough out in their first leg of the Western conference semifinals against FC Dallas, winning 2-0 and beating the defending champions to the finish line.
Now they head into the conference final against Portland with a 3-0 record and will be hoping for some big things from their players.
They’re already unbeaten in their final four games and are on the verge of their first playoff berth since 2007.
That might be enough to earn the Galaxy a berth in the conference finals, but the question is whether or not their starting lineup will be able to carry the Galaxy into the playoffs.2.
Seattle Sounders: The Sounders are a solid team, but they’ll need to win their final two games if they want to get into the postseason.
After their win over the Red Bulls, Seattle had a solid 3-1 win against the Houston Dynamo on Sunday.
Their goalkeeping tandem of Brad Evans and Brad Evans Jr. has been fantastic and has been able to keep the Sounders defense honest and shut down any chances Houston would have had.
Seattle has the second-best goal differential in the MLS and is tied with Portland for the best goal differential of any team in MLS.
They are also undefeated in their league playoff games.
However, the Sounders are also looking to bounce back from last week’s disappointing defeat to Real Salt Camp.
The Red Bulls will have to play their best game of the season against a Sounders team that’s not playing well at all, and Seattle will need to make a lot of things happen in order to reach the conference semifinals.3.
Vancouver Whitecaps: The Whitecaps are a team that has been in the postseason for a few seasons now.
They won the Western Final in 2015 and have won two straight MLS Cups.
However this team is playing at a new level in 2017.
After defeating Sporting Kansas City 2-2 on Sunday, they’re looking to get their first conference championship since 2007 and their first in the West since 2009.
The White the Caps won their first three games, but then they suffered a devastating defeat in their fourth game, allowing the Red Bull offense to take over and lead to a 2-3 win.
They will be trying to get a win over Portland to make the playoffs, but a loss will be a blow to their chances.4.
FC Dallas: It’s hard to know what to make of FC Dallas right now, especially as they are looking for a second straight MLS Cup, but we do know that their form is not the best.
Their record is just 3-5-2, but that has dropped them to third in the Eastern Conference, a point ahead of New York City FC.
The defending champion is undefeated in the last five MLS games and will need all of their pieces to come together to pull off the upset.
Dallas is undefeated against New York and will hope that their new signing, Mauro Diaz, can bring something to the table, especially if they can get him on the field.
They lost a tough match to the New England Revolution last week, but will have a great chance to win this match and send their season back to the drawing board.5.
Toronto FC: Toronto FC are currently unbeaten in the past five games and could easily be a top four team if they beat the New Jersey Devils in the New Era PPL Park.
The Reds have won their last three games and have the best goals per game ratio in MLS at 1.89.
Toronto has the fourth-best defensive record in the East, but it will need every ounce of their attacking game to keep up with the rest of the East.
They have the most shots in the entire league, which is going to be crucial for the Reds if they hope to make it into the MLS playoffs.6.
Chivas USA: Chivas will be coming off their biggest win of the 2017 season, defeating New York Cosmos 3-2 at the end of May.
Chihuahuas have been solid in front the Cosmos, but Chivas have struggled against them and are looking to add to their record.
They beat the Cosmos on Wednesday and then beat the Chicago Fire 3-3 in the final game of their playoff run.
Chisos are undefeated in all but two of their last six games, and they’ll be looking to build on the momentum from their last match.7.
Chula Vista Galaxy: Chula vistas
