The NorthPark Mall in Coral Square Mall, Miami Gardens, Florida, is likely to see a new high-rise tower in the coming years.
A tower, which is expected to be completed in 2019, is expected for the NorthPark shopping center.
Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Development John Vazquez told NBC 5 that the county was still considering whether to extend the mall’s mall zoning restrictions to include the building, which will have a total of nine floors.
Vazcer said the county had been considering extending the mall zoning regulations to include a new mall tower.
He also said the developers have not decided whether to expand the mall into new buildings or if the zoning will be revised to include new buildings.
Vizquez said the project could potentially result in more parking in the mall, but he said there was no guarantee the new building would not have parking problems.
The county is expected soon to hold a public hearing on the tower, the first in a planned phased expansion of the mall.
The zoning restriction for the mall was originally put in place in 2002.
The mall’s zoning changed in 2014 to allow for additional development.
Vizzini said the developer has been discussing the possibility of building a larger tower in Coral Park, but they are currently looking at a different option.
He said that the developers are working with the county to make sure the existing mall zoning remains in place.
He added that the mall developers have already worked with the local parks department to help plan and maintain the mall as it was before the zoning changes.
The project could be the first of its kind in the United States.
Venezia said the mall could attract new tenants, but the development could also create more congestion at the mall by having multiple towers.
Viazquez said it would be important to work with the mall to make it work.
“It’s about having an area that’s accessible and that’s going to be open to everybody and that people can walk to,” Vazcers said.
